Background of the Study: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a prevalent condition that affects both men and women, particularly in older populations. It is characterized by the involuntary loss of urine, which can significantly impact an individual’s physical, emotional, and social well-being (Choudhury et al., 2024). The condition has a profound effect on the quality of life (QoL) of affected individuals, contributing to feelings of embarrassment, social isolation, and anxiety. Nurses play a critical role in the management of urinary incontinence, which includes assessment, patient education, symptom management, and emotional support (Benson et al., 2023). While there is a growing body of research highlighting the role of healthcare professionals in addressing UI, the specific contributions of nurses remain underexplored, particularly in regions like Bauchi State.
In Bauchi State, healthcare facilities face challenges such as inadequate training, limited resources, and a lack of specialized care for conditions like UI (Bala et al., 2024). However, nurses have the potential to improve patients’ QoL by providing appropriate care and support, including recommending behavioral therapies, managing medications, and facilitating continence products for patients. Despite the importance of nurses in the management of urinary incontinence, there is little documented research on the impact of nursing interventions on patients' QoL in Bauchi State. This study seeks to assess how nurses can improve the quality of life of individuals suffering from UI in Bauchi State healthcare facilities by examining their role in patient management.
Statement of the Problem: Urinary incontinence significantly diminishes the quality of life for many individuals in Bauchi State. While nurses are integral to managing this condition, there is a lack of comprehensive assessment of their role in improving patients’ quality of life in local healthcare settings. This research seeks to evaluate how nursing interventions impact the QoL of patients with UI in Bauchi State healthcare facilities, with the goal of improving patient outcomes and informing future practice.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on Bauchi State healthcare facilities, specifically those providing care to patients with urinary incontinence. It will assess nurses’ role in improving patients’ quality of life through various interventions. Limitations include the potential for small sample sizes and data biases due to self-reporting by nurses.
